The farm reopened to the public in April 2008 and now provides facilities for members of the local community who are interested in developing their skills and knowledge in animal care and welfare. It is also hoped that the facilities can be used to enhance the curriculum offer available in local schools, by providing day visits for up to three thousand school children a year to the farm.
Our base at Crystal Palace Park Centre provides programmes in the farm, in an extensive suite of rooms in the Jubilee Stand and on a practical plot within the park.
The full-time courses (animal care, horticulture, environment, arboriculture) offered at this centre are particularly suitable for 16-18 year olds but older applicants are considered. Part-time programmes offered are suitable for all ages. In addition, we work in partnership with local schools to offer opportunities to 14 and 15 year olds for practical tasters and training in environmental studies, horticulture and animal care alongside their school-based GCSE programmes.
